Lobby Days Recap: Unity at the Capitol

Thank you to everyone who participated in Lobby Days 2026.

Members from across the state came to Sacramento and joined together under one shared theme: UNITY.

Lobby Days was an important opportunity for Local 2620 members to meet directly with Legislators and their staff to discuss issues that impact our membership, our professions, and the public services we provide every day.

Bringing members together at the Capitol helped ensure that our union’s voice was heard clearly and directly. It was also a reminder that our strength comes from standing together and showing up for one another.

During Lobby Days, we discussed a number of issues affecting our members. Among the bills we raised, two have been prioritized:

AB 2223 – Prison Contract Transparency

This bill would require greater transparency around contracts made by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, including contracts related to healthcare, housing, and supervision. The goal is to help ensure public funds are used responsibly and that state jobs and quality of care are not undermined.

AB 1729 – State Worker Telework

This bill would improve and track telework for state employees by creating a public dashboard on cost savings and requiring agencies to regularly review their telework programs. The goal is to support flexibility, improve recruitment and retention, and promote accountability in telework practices.

These were not the only issues discussed, and we will continue to monitor legislation that may impact our members as the session moves forward. But these two bills have emerged as key priorities in our advocacy efforts.

Most importantly, Lobby Days reflected the power of member engagement. Members took the time to travel to Sacramento, share their experiences, and speak up on behalf of Local 2620. That participation mattered, and it made a strong impression.

For members who want to become more involved in our union’s work, joining a committee is one of the best ways to stay engaged and help shape our efforts moving forward.

Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped represent Local 2620 with professionalism, pride, and solidarity.

In unity,

Carl Miller, JD, LCSW (MA), LCSW (CA)

Interim President
