Union Win: Management Violated the Contract, Member Won: A recent grievance victory shows the power of enforcing our contract

https://conta.cc/4urLuU9

This is what union power looks like.

Management tried to force employees to submit vacation requests one year in advance.

Under our contract, management had 15 days to approve or deny those requests.

They did not.

A member stood up.

A grievance was filed.

And the member WON.

Because management violated the contract, the member was granted all of her requested vacation days for the year, including Christmas Eve 2025, even without having the highest seniority.

Read that again.

She did not win because management was being fair.

She won because the contract was enforced.

She won because someone spoke up.

She won because the union fought back.

That matters.

Too often, management counts on members staying quiet.

Too often, they hope no one challenges them.

Too often, they assume they can get away with it.

Not when we know our rights.

Not when we use our contract.

Not when we stand together.

This win is bigger than one vacation request.

It is a reminder to every AFSCME Local 2620 member that the contract is not just words on paper. It is a tool. It is protection. It is power.

And when management violates it, you do not have to deal with it alone.
