An Update from Your Bargaining Team: Don’t Balance the Budget on the Backs of State Workers

An Update from Your Bargaining Team

Based on the information we've received from the Governor’s May Revise, released on May 14, 2025, all bargaining units, including those with closed contracts, are being called back to the table. The State is seeking to "solve" a multi-billion-dollar deficit and they’ve made it known that employee compensation is part of that solution.

This is unacceptable.

What You Need To Know

  • The State is calling all unions, including ours, to the bargaining table, regardless of contract status.

  • They’ve signaled potential reductions in salaries and benefits as part of budget savings.

  • History has shown that when the State faces a deficit, cuts and furloughs have been their go to answer(s).

  • This approach comes at a time when we see the state is already struggling to compete with private sector employers.

  • Our mental health system and social services are under immense strain and weakening the workforce only puts our safety and the public safety further at risk.

What We’re Doing

Your bargaining team is not backing down.

We are continuing to move forward with strong, member-driven proposals that reflect what you’ve told us matters most:

  • Fair wages and cost-of-living increases.

  • Recruitment and retention strategies that reflect today’s competitive job market.

  • Protections for telework, job stability, and professional respect.

We will continue to fight so the State’s financial choices do not come at your expense.

What We Need from You

Now is the time for unity.

➡️ Talk to your coworkers.

➡️ Show your support and wear your union gear.

➡️ Engage in site meetings, town halls, and workplace actions.

We need to show the State that we are organized, informed, and ready.

We will not allow them to push us aside. We won’t be sacrificed for bad budgeting.

Solidarity is our strength. And now more than ever, we need to stand together loud, clear, and united.

In unity,

Your AFSCME Local 2620 Bargaining Team
